The Takemitsu Triptych by Pierre Delvincourt

"J'ai découvert une photo de Toru Takemitsu pen avant d'avoir entendu sa musique...

Il me vint immédiatement à l'esprit que son monde sonore si prégnant était un autoportrait sans fin...

Pourquoi dans ce cas en ajouter d'autres?

Il n'y a pas de réponse à la question si ce n'est ceci: J'ai ressenti une étrange satisfaction en essayant d'obtenir une fidèle ressemblance à mon modèle, tentant ainsi de refaire le long chemin que lui-même emprunta pour parvenir à une parfaite adéquation entre l'expression de son visage et son œuvre.

Pendant de longues nuits j'ai travaillé a trois eaux-fortes en écoutant les pièces pour piano de Takemitsu interprétées par Noriko Ogawa. Elle m'aida beaucoup à comprendre le monde méditatif et profond du grand musicien japonais.

Ce travail lui est dédié, ainsi, bien sûr, qu'à la mémoire du compositeur."

It soon became apparent to me that his captivating world of sound was a musical self portrait of his all too short life...

So why add another portrait?

My only answer is that I had a strange satisfaction in trying to get a likeness of this master by using the same fundamental process he followed in order to achieve a perfect harmony between Takemitsu's expressive face and his works.

I worked at these three etchings at night while listening particularly to Takemitsu's piano music recorded by Noriko Ogawa who helped me understand the deep, meditative world of this great Japanese composer.
