The Bohun Gallery

The Gallery and Julian Trevelyan

The Bohun Gallery, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, was established in 1973 to show contemporary British art. From the earliest days, Patricia Jordan Evans achieved wide recognition for showing the work of leading British artists and has enjoyed long-standing associations with John Piper, Dame Elisabeth Frink, Mary Fedden and Julian Trevelyan.

Trevelyan is perhaps best known for his early Surrealist work of the 1930's, but he soon abandoned this genre for a more straightforward figurative style. His great gift was his ability to pare down a scene to its barest essentials but at the same time to capture the spirit of a place with a freshness and spontaneity that captivates the spectator. The recurring themes which so inspired his work, were the river Thames, landscapes, industrial scenes and his travels.

Julian Trevelyan: Posthumous Printing And Signing

A number of editions were not completed at the time of Trevelyan's death and from 1990 Mary Fedden and his print dealer Bohun Gallery, have continued to organise posthumous printing, taking reference from his colour instruction proofs. These prints can be recognised by a rubber-stamp of Trevelyan's own signature plus the initials JOT in a round-edged box (designed by Mary specifically to bring attention to the fact that it was a posthumous printing), printed in black, lower right underneath the image for all posthumous signing. The larger prints are signed with the complete stamp and the smaller images simply with the box.
